I am so incredibly lucky that I have people and things that make saying goodbye to Hanoi incredibly difficult. For if I did not have them, that would have meant I wasted nearly three months internship in Vietnam. I was able to make friends, experience the culture, learn a little Vietnamese in the process; all those things became part of me and make it that much more difficult to say farewell to them.

The experience of doing an internship in Vietnam certainly was not easy for me but I have no doubt that it was tremendouly valuable. At first, I actually had a lot of culture shocks, for example, sometimes it was hard to communicate with Vietnamese people because not a lot of people speak English and some had very strong accent. However, Vietnamese people were very kind to me and took well care of me especially the host family and program coordinator. I realized that it’s difficult to understand another culture but it’s also really necessary to accept other culture, their life and their way of thinking. At the hotel where I did my internship, I could learn a lot of things. For example, I learnt how to communicate politely with customers, how to make them satisfied and how to manage the hotel. Everyone from the supervisor to my co-workers was helpful and accommodating, I was included in all the daily meetings and the supervisor was very open to share her knowledge about hotel management which was really helpful to my future work. I really had a good experience in Vietnam. I appreciate the people I’ve met and the experience I’ve had. This is going to be very useful in the future. Thank you ABROADER Vietnam so much for the valuable opportunity to learn about my field of work in your beautiful country!

I am grateful to everyone who has helped organize my internship in Vietnam this summer. I am grateful to ABROADER for finding me the best placement that I could ever hope for and for being so caring, accountable and responsive during my whole internship duration. I am grateful to my supervisor and all the coworkers at my host organization for being so hard-working, responsible, encouraging and supportive. Without their kindness and support, my holistic learning experience while in Vietnam would not be that worthwhile. I would definitely recommend this internship in Vietnam program to anyone that is interested in doing an internship abroad.

I really enjoyed my internship itself, but ABROADER is what made my experience complete. I felt a lot more connected to the Vietnamese culture even though I was working remotely. They are very interactive, engaging, and supportive. I made great connections that I hope to keep even after my time internship ends. Honestly, I expected to focus more on my internship than the cultural component with ABROADER, but their excitement is contagious and they love to engage with everyone. It would have been a very different experience without ABROADER guiding and facilitating along the way.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

You get out what you put in. This was a remote study abroad internship, but because I, the local buddies, and ABROADER put in such great efforts, I do not feel like I missed out on much. I decided to participate last minute, and could never have expected how great and fulfilling this experience was.

It has been awesome trip and experience for me. Thanks for the people that have provided help and support throughout the trip. during my 5 months here, i get to learn this country's culture, people, food and the work life. Comparing Vietnam and Singapore, it is a new experience for me and the other students too. So, if you get the chance to come here and learn/experience, go out and explore. Be adventurous, daring to try out new things/stuff. making friends with the local, explore different part of the city or maybe even traveling out of the city. It is worth to spend your time to the fullest here!! “Don’t travel just to see. Travel to try, listen, feel, taste. That way there won’t be any place you cannot find beauty.”

ABROADER has helped me understand what life is like in Vietnam, so much so that after I graduate, I fully plan on visiting meeting some of these new friends in their homes. I have had the privilege of seeing life through their eyes, something many of us should take the opportunity to do. I've learned what life is like for a day for a Vietnamese citizen. We have spent countless hours together cooking popular Vietnamese dishes such as spring rolls and coffee, and although my form may not have been perfect, I did manage to impress my local buddies. Regarding how they handle an intern’s work life, they are active and supportive. I know that I have a reliable and attentive support system that looks forward to my feedback and genuinely cares about me. This has been a very real, emotional experience for me because it is something that I consider very serious. I have wanted to broaden my horizons by learning about other cultures and how other people live, as I believe that this is the best way to truly understand ourselves as human beings. I feel that ABROADER has helped me actualize all of my passion, motivation, and skills to not only make a difference in my own personal life but in the lives of other people around the world.

A Positive International Internship Experience !

I am so appreciative of the ABROADER team for all of their efforts throughout this unprecedented remote internship experience; I felt constantly supported and engaged in the country of Vietnam, even while in a remote setting. While working for an international organization while working from home was inherently difficult/challenging, ABROADER and the Local Buddies made this the best possible experience for all of the interns! I cannot even imagine how wonderful this experience will be for future interns who get to travel in-country with ABROADER for their internships and get to meet all of the wonderful, supportive, and KIND team members.

No words can represent how much experience I have gained throughout my internship in Vietnam. Working at my host company as a research assistant, I have gained many technical and soft skills, such as participating in lab undergraduate training courses, doing lab testing services and also learning the culture of Vietnam with the Vietnamese people. After this internship, I realized that I could adapt myself to a different and foreign environment. This enables me to be able to work with a more diverse environment, even with colleagues with different background and knowledge. This pushes me as an employee to learn and work even harder to cope and manage with different people and adapt accordingly to the needs of the company. All in all, I feel that it was a breathtaking experience for me to have this opportunity to immerse myself with the Vietnam culture with the Vietnamese people, and I am really thankful to have taken up this internship experience with ABROADER for letting me experience such a new life. The funniest moment I had during my internship experience was that I had to CHASE down a bus when I was on the way to work. It was a really funny one as I have this mindset that the buses in Vietnam would wait for you to board before it starts to drive again. However, the bus did not even stop moving and kept on driving, and left me behind the bus stop. Since that day onwards, I ensure myself not to miss the bus by chasing the bus down before the driver closes its door on me. Thank you ABROADER for this memorable experience!

Great experience and not so complex documentations for a smooth process. It will be better if they can expand their business due to lack of manpower to showcase their capabilities. We came during the period where the world had a Corona virus outbreak and ABROADER managed the situation well where they informed us of the numbers and giving us masks to ensure that we are safe and healthy. Whenever we need help, we know we can approach them and be open to our opinions because we know they will listen and try to help whenever they can.

Before, I didn’t really like my personality as I was a timid girl and afraid to speak up for myself. I am also a perfectionist and would like to spend as much time for preparation as possible before I do something. However, the internship in Vietnam changed that for me. Through interacting with my students and fellow interns I opened up a lot and become more outgoing. In my work, after going through some troubles with cultural difference, I realize one thing for myself that is: Preparation is not always good and if you don’t prepare you are given the chance to do things more freely and more out of the box, so next time even if you’re asked to do something when you’re not prepared “Just Do It"
