ABROADER is committed to supporting young students who are inspired to intern and study abroad. Every semester, scholarship offers are available to extend access to international education for all students. Read through the following sections and seize your chance of joining our programs with financial aid. Additionally, don’t forget to check out our recommended external scholarships listed below!

ABROADER's Scholarships

As part of our mission to help students continue their abroad dreams and future-proof their careers, we are happy to announce our 2022 – 2023 Intern Abroad Scholarships! The scholarships are open to students across the world applying for internships in Vietnam.

Notes:

  1. Standard ABROADER’s Scholarships are now available for both remote internships and on-site internships. 
  2. The scholarship application would simultaneously proceed with the program application
  3. By choosing Yes in the Application Form, you are applied to multiple scholarships at a time but only ONE could be awarded (This does not count toward scholarships from other organizations). 
  4. The scholarship will be applied directly to the recipient’s tuition fees for their chosen program, and cannot be converted into cash.

  • Access mode: In-person internship only
  • Duration: No minimum program duration
  • Eligibility country: All nations are eligible to apply
  • Eligibility criteria:
    • You must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
    • You must be a full-time student at an accredited university/ college
    • You must have a submitted application form to ABROADER
    • You have never been to any foreign country
  • Requirements during and after the program: 
    • You will be an ABROADER ambassador to inspire and encourage others to study abroad
    • Proactively engage the program
    • Review ABROADER on study abroad pages
    • Provide materials and support ABROADER team with media products, including but not limited to a video, a blog/social media post, and an interview session (This does not mean you have to edit videos, write a blog post, or set up an interview)
  • Supporting documents: As part of the application, the applicants must submit all the following required documents to apply@abroader.org after submitting the Application Form:
    • Your CV Under 5Mb in .pdf (You don’t have to re-send if you already submitted your CV with the Application Form)
    • Academic transcripts stamped or signed by your university /college .pdf (An un-stamped or un-signed version is accepted at first as you can send the stamped or signed version later on)
    • A personal statement that sets out the following (In Google Docs or Microsoft Word):
      1. What qualities/skills do you have that make you an ideal candidate for this scholarship and an ambassador for ABROADER?
      2. What is your plan to promote ABROADER if you receive this scholarship?

    • You are children of at least one Vietnamese parent
  • Requirements during and after the program: 
    • You will be an ABROADER ambassador to inspire and encourage others to study abroad
    • Proactively engage the program
    • Review ABROADER on study abroad pages
    • Provide materials and support ABROADER team with media products, including but not limited to a video, a blog/social media post, and an interview session (This does not mean you have to edit videos, write a blog post, or set up an interview)

    • You are a social media influencer (Having an Instagram account or Tik Tok account or Youtube channel equivalents with a minimum of 3000 followers or members)
  • Requirements during and after the program: 
    • You will be an ABROADER ambassador to inspire and encourage others to study abroad
    • Proactively engage the program
    • Review ABROADER on study abroad pages
    • Provide materials and support ABROADER team with media products, including but not limited to a video, a blog/social media post, and an interview session (This does not mean you have to edit videos, write a blog post, or set up an interview)
  • Supporting documents: As part of the application, the applicants must submit all the following required documents to apply@abroader.org after submitting the Application Form:
    • Your CV Under 5Mb in .pdf (You don’t have to re-send if you already submitted your CV with the Application Form)

Applying is a piece of cake!

  • Step 1: After navigating to the Application Form (by hitting the Apply now button), you’ll then be prompted to choose to apply for ABROADER’s Scholarships at the Extra information part.
  • If you are desired to apply for both / or other scholarships aside from ABROADER’s Scholarships as well as have any questions, please indicate them in the Inquiry details & questions field of the Application Form.
  • Step 2: Send your Supporting documents via apply@abroader.org
  • After checking and reviewing your application for our scholarships, our team will schedule an interview with you. We would like to know more about you and your needs to determine whether you are eligible for the scholarships through the Supporting documents mentioned above. You’ll hear back from us about the final result no later than four weeks before your program starts in Vietnam via email. Since grants are limited, they are applied on a “first-come-first-serve” basis.
  • Step 3: After you receive one of our scholarships, our team will follow up with you on the scholarship content deliverables (i.e: photos, videos, blogs, etc.) during your time abroad.

For students from the U.S

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant that supports students of limited budget to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to national security and economic competitiveness

The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.

Award amounts range from US$100 to US$5,000.

Boren Scholarship is a grant for US undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to US interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Applicants must commit to working in the federal government upon graduation. Selected applicants will be awarded a maximum of USD $8,000 for summer programs, USD $10,000 for semester programs and USD $20,000 for programs lasting between 6 to 12 months.

With a desire to make life-changing international experiences accessible to minority, community college and first-generation college students, Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) provides “scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the US study abroad population.” Scholarships range from USD $1,250 to USD $10,000 and can be applied to programs that run for at least 28 days.

Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship is open to most students currently enrolled full-time at a four-year, degree-granting US college or university. Applicants must be pursuing their undergraduate degree, be in good standing at their home institution, and have applied to OR have been accepted into a credit-bearing semester-long study abroad program.

Winners will be awarded USD $1,000 and one Tortuga travel backpack.

The Foundation for Asia Pacific Education is an NGO aiming at creating global citizens and leaders by assisting students in achieving their personal and professional goals of obtaining cultural and academic experiences within the Asia Pacific region. Award amounts vary however will range in increments of USD $500 to USD $1500.

AAIF is open to US undergraduates whose devotion to community service, selfless acts of care, and interest in improving the quality of life for others reflect the life of the Awards’ namesake.

The Foundation will award a maximum of three USD $1,000 individual prizes in 2020.

The Diverse International Women Of Color Study Abroad Scholarship is intended to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad. DIWC will award (3) $500 scholarships to women of color who have been accepted to an In-Person Summer 2022 Study Abroad Program.

The InterExchange Foundation Christianson Fellowship awards up to $10,000 to young Americans who are passionate about helping communities abroad thrive and are eager to learn about the local culture. Fellows identify a project or an organization working on an issue they care about, and with the support of the Christianson Fellowship, contribute their skills and passion to that endeavor for at least six months on-location abroad. This intercultural experience is a meaningful way to help others, improve skills, and gain insight into another culture.

The Overseas Ambassador Program is an initiative created for current students or recent graduates who are planning to study, intern, volunteer or teach abroad. Overseas Ambassadors earn a stipend in return for representing Diversity Abroad, writing articles, and sharing experiences while abroad. Geared toward economically disadvantaged students, first-generation, students with disabilities and ethnically and racially diverse students. Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with the AIFS, will offer a $500 stipend for fall and spring (five stipends are available for both semesters) and two $500 stipends for the summer term. Recipients receive $2,000 to help finance their international trip that includes an educational or service component. To qualify, applicants must: be 18-30 years old; be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; have demonstrated financial need; reside or attend school in one of the 13 metropolitan areas where HI USA has a community presence; be planning an upcoming international trip that involves an educational and/or volunteer service component.

For students from Australia

NCP scholarship aims at giving Australian undergraduates opportunities to immerse themselves in Indo-Pacific cultures, learn new languages, further their studies, and gain invaluable work experience through internships with organizations across the region. The New Colombo Plan supports a range of work-based experiences in scholarships programs including internships, mentorships, practicums, and clinical placements. Award amounts range from AUD $1,500 – AUD $10,000, depending on program types and durations.

For students from the UK

The Turing Scheme is the UK government’s global program to study and work abroad. The scheme provides funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world.  Supporting the government’s Global Britain objectives, the Turing Scheme unlocks the opportunity for UK higher education institutions to offer life-changing experiences across the world for their students. We recommend you to ask your school, university, or college whether what funding is available as funding may change depending on the types of placement and the countries you visit. Your school, education provider, college , or university will soon be able to provide you with information about how they are using the Turing Scheme to give you opportunities to study and work abroad, including which countries you can visit and how to be involved.

For students from Japan

JASSO promotes studying abroad and provides financial assistance to Japanese students, depending on their period of study and purpose, so that they can study abroad without worrying about their financial situation. Scholarships will be provided to Japanese students who study at higher education institutions overseas for a short term between eight days and one year under student exchange agreements. The total budget for exchange programs is JPY ¥5,458 million/20,450 students.

The Tobitate! (Leap for Tomorrow) Young Ambassador Program is a Japanese public-private partnership aimed at helping Japanese students study abroad. The desired result is for the students and supporting companies to form a globalized human resources development community and for the students to develop into globally-minded professionals needed by society. Students will return to Japan and help increase the overall momentum in Japan for studying abroad by relaying to others the merits of their overseas experiences. Financial support is very appealing. * Note: For those applying to an internship program, depending on your host company’s policies, you may receive a monthly allowance and be provided with lunch or transportation fees related to your work. All of that could help you save from US$100- US$500 per month. Wish you luck!

Fundraising tips

“Where there is a will, there’s a way”. There are tons of fundraising ideas that you should give a go. Below is a compilation of some of the most innovative ones adapted from Michigan State University’s Office for Education Abroad to help you get started. Let’s the games begin!

  • Keep in mind that local, regional and national groups, as well as individuals, are all possible contributors!
  • Heritage Groups that have interests in specific regions
  • Civic Organizations Charitable, ethnic, religious or campus organizations
  • Sororities/fraternities (local or national chapter)
  • Media Companies (newspapers, radio, etc)

Send them a sincere letter detailing your study abroad program, your personal, academic and professional goals for the experience. Don’t forget to emphasize how you feel studying abroad will help you become a more informed and engaged member of your local community when you return.

Be sure that your letter includes information about yourself (include a photo)

Explain and describe your program and how it would change your life

Explain how you would use the funds Make donating as easy as possible and ask for a specific amount

Try to keep in touch with your supporters via email while you are studying abroad

Always follow up with “Thank You” letters (preferably handwritten)
