Travel Update in ABROADER Program Locations

More Southeast Asian countries open borders for quarantine-free travel. It is such great news for students who plan to have a summer study abroad experience in this region. Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Singapore – our program locations in Southeast Asia, also lifted up the entry requirements for foreign arrivals.

This blog is for you to catch a glimpse of the reopening policy and regulations in the countries.

Vietnam

Entry Requirements:

Foreigners entering Vietnam only need to provide a negative Covid-19 test certificate and are not required to quarantine.

Foreign visitors have to do either the Covid-19 Test using RT-PCR method within 72 hours before departure or the rapid antigen methods within 24 hours. (applied to entry via air, land and sea borders)

*Note: Covid-19 test result (either using RT-PCR or rapid antigen method) me must be done through registered clinics/hospitals

Those who cannot take a test before arrival have to be tested within 24 hours after entering and can leave their accommodation if they have a negative test result. (applied to entry via land and sea borders)

They are required to monitor their health for the first 10 days after arrival and notify medical staff if they have symptoms of Covid.

The PC-Covid app is a must-have to constantly update their movements and do health declarations during their stay in Vietnam.

Visa

Vietnam resumes visa exemption for citizens from 13 countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Britain, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus. All visa regulations, exemption, and requirements are resumed like before the pandemic.

Cambodia

1- Rescind the requirement for a negative COVID-19 PCR test result
2- Rescind the requirement for a rapid test upon arrival
3- Resume the Visa on Arrival service for all travelers entering by air, land and water.

But the Ministry of Health encourages all travelers to carry out the rapid antigen self-test.

All travelers shall present certificates indicating full COVID-19 vaccination upon arrival.

Travelers who have not received the full COVID-19 vaccination shall undertake 14-day quarantine at a location to be designated by the Ministry of Health or the competent authorities

Thailand

From 1 April 2022, international arrivals under any of the current three entry schemes – TEST & GO, Sandbox, and Alternative Quarantine (AQ) – will be allowed to enter Thailand without the need to show proof of a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of travel.

Two tests remain in place for the TEST & GO and Sandbox travelers: RT-PCR test upon arrival (Day 0) and an antigen self-test on Day 5.

Quarantine reduced to 5 days and an RT-PCR test on Day 4-5.

E-visa approval process takes 10-15 business days

Passport holders from 48 countries and 1 special administrative region – Hong Kong SAR – are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 30 days on each visit. If such foreigners enter the Kingdom at the immigration checkpoints which border neighboring countries, they will be allowed to stay for 15 days each time, except Malaysian nationals who cross the borderline from Malaysia whose granted period of stay will not exceed 30 days each time.

Remarks

  • Passport holders of Brazil and Peru are entitled for tourist visa exemption scheme. Meanwhile, Thailand also holds bilateral agreements on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, official and ordinary passports for a visit of not exceeding 90 days with Brazil and Peru.
  • Passport holders of Vietnam and Hong Kong are entitled for tourist visa exemption scheme. Meanwhile, Thailand also holds bilateral agreements on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, official and ordinary passports for a visit of not exceeding 30 days with Vietnam and Hong Kong.
  • Passport holders of countries/territories entitled for visa exemption scheme are required to obtain the Certificate of Entry (COE) issued by the Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate-General before entering Thailand.

Singapore

Beginning in April, vaccinated travelers from any country will be able to enter Singapore without quarantining or taking an additional test after arriving.

Local restrictions are loosening as well.

On March 29, mask-wearing outdoors will become optional, although the rules for wearing them indoors and in enclosed spaces still apply.

The same day, permitted group sizes will increase from five to 10, the curfew on selling alcohol in stores or bars after 10:30 p.m. will be lifted and live performances will be allowed again.
